well helloo!
my name is katie larkin, owner of Katie Larkin Cakes & Confections.
i have been enamored with desserts since i can remember…literally. one of my earliest memories is watching that big purple dinosaur and his little friends decorate a big ol’ layer cake with pink frosting... i kid you not.
then came the Barbie years. i thought the Barbie dream house was cool… but the barbie dream boat was WAY cooler. why? because it had a working blender on it. milkshakes galore for Barbie and me! then came birthday cakes for my beanie babies, and… well i think you get the idea. most of my memories growing up are marked by delicious events. 
i never knew just how much i loved baking until i went from having a beautiful kitchen to bake in with a fully stocked pantry (thanks to mom!) to a dorm room about a third of the size of my kitchen back at home.  i made do with what i had… making chocolate covered strawberries and a desperate dorm version of smores for my friends to eat while ‘studying’.  when i couldn’t take another day away from the oven, i went down to the laundry room (where the oven was) and started making cupcakes on top of the dryers. when it came time to doing homework, i found myself reaching for cookbooks instead. when graduation was fast approaching and friends were applying for jobs and internships after college, i applied to pastry school.  baking puts me in my happy place. it’s a passion that has only grown momentum through the years.  my pursuit of pastry has brought me to the one and only San Francisco, where i graduated from Tante Marie’s Cooking School and now it has me packing my pans for NYC in July 2011 to work with one of the most incredible cake bakeries (omg!).
Why the name omg dessert!? Well, because I was raised in the San Fernando Valley, making me…*shudder*… a valley girl, and...like... no matter how hard I fight it… like... 'omg' will always be a part of... like... my vocabulary… especially when it comes to...like... eating dessert.
